This year’s conference will feature a first-of-its-kind professional development opportunity, specifically for interpreters. Nationally recognized presenter Sarah Wheeler will lead an innovative workshop exploring the responsible use of artificial intelligence in interpreting.

Participants will explore ethical AI use, confidentiality, preparation strategies, reflective practice, recognizing bias, evaluating AI-generated content, and maintaining human judgment at the center of interpreting practice. As AI continues to evolve, this timely workshop will equip interpreters with practical tools while reinforcing the profession’s ethical standards.

Conference is open to all sign language interpreters, Deaf and hard-of-hearing community members, spoken language interpreters, students, and advocates.


Sarah Wheeler, M.Ed., M.S. Founder & CEO, Building Bridges Global · HuVia Technologies Full Biography Sarah Wheeler is a coda, the oldest of six children raised by two Deaf parents, first on the NTID campus and then in the Tripod program, where Deaf and coda kids grew up signing side by side. She taught ASL alongside her mother, advocated with Deaf survivors through LACAAW, and grew up calling Temple Beth Solomon her Deaf club. Two languages, two communities, one family: that upbringing still centers everything she does. Sarah’s interpreting path ran through the EIPA, VQAS, BEI, and RID’s National Interpreter Certification, with years of work in educational and community settings. She holds a master’s degree in Interpreting Pedagogy from Northeastern University, where she studied under Dennis Cokely, Debra Russell, and Betsy Winston, and she is completing a Ph.D. in Instruction and Cognition at Grand Canyon University, with dissertation research on emotional intelligence in the interpreting field. She has taught interpreting at Troy University, the University of North Florida, and UNC Greensboro. As founder and CEO of Building Bridges Global, an approved RID CMP sponsor, and HuVia Technologies, and as the creator of The Interpreter School, Sarah works at the intersection of interpreting, emotional intelligence, and artificial intelligence. Her conviction is simple, and it is the heart of this workshop: AI can support the work, but human judgment, and the people we serve, stay at the center.

POLICIES

Language

IdahoRID events are designed as ASL-centered Deaf spaces. The 2026 Conference welcomes spoken language interpreters, advocates, and others who may not use sign language. Spoken English interpretation will be available to support accessibility for all attendees.


Registration Table

Please pick up your name badge & gift bag at the registration table upon arrival. On-site registration will not be available. 


Workshop Attire

Business casual attire is recommended.


Children & Child Care

IdahoRID is unable to provide child care services. To maintain a professional learning environment, children should not attend workshops.


Cancellations and Refunds

Submit cancellation requests to info@idahorid.org. Please see our Event Cancellation Policy for terms.


No Shows

Refunds will not be issued for registrants who do not attend the event.
